On December 3, the Department of Information and Communications of Can Tho City informed about Decision No. 1519/QD-TTg (Decision 1519) dated December 2, 2023 of the Prime Minister approving the planning of Can Tho City for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
According to Decision 1519, the list of projects in the field of education and training of Can Tho City in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, includes: Upgrading Can Tho College of Economics and Technology to establish Can Tho University of Economics and Agricultural Technology (project location in Ninh Kieu District); compensation, support and resettlement of Can Tho College of Culture and Arts (Binh Thuy District); compensation, support and resettlement of phase 1 (5.7 hectares) of Can Tho University of Technology and Engineering (Binh Thuy District).

Decision 1519 allows for the expansion and improvement of the quality of colleges, vocational colleges, professional colleges, and vocational schools. At the same time, expand the scale of training, upgrade facilities, equipment, and quality of universities in Can Tho City to meet the demand for human resources, especially high-quality human resources to serve the goal of socio-economic development; promote training and scientific research links with domestic and foreign institutes and schools.
Can Tho College of Economics and Technology is a multidisciplinary training institution. Students and graduates from the school have the opportunity to continue their studies at colleges and universities.
