Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a strong warning about Ukraine's possible use of NATO long-range weapons, stressing that this could lead to serious reactions from Moscow.

On October 27, in an interview with reporter Pavel Zarubin, Mr. Putin emphasized that the Russian Defense Ministry is considering response measures if the US and its allies allow Kiev to use long-range weapons to attack deep into Russian territory.

“The Russian Defense Ministry is thinking about how to respond to possible long-range strikes on Russian territory. It will draw up a range of responses,” Putin said. The statement comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called on Western allies to provide long-range missiles, including the US ATACMS and the UK Storm Shadows, to limit Russia’s ability to launch attacks.

Asked whether NATO countries had listened to his warnings that supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine could drag them into war, Putin replied: “They haven’t told me anything, but I hope they have heard.” He also stressed that Russia would need to make its own decision if long-range strikes were allowed.

According to Mr Putin, a major problem is that Ukraine does not have the necessary personnel and specialists to operate NATO military equipment. He asserted that only personnel from NATO countries can do this. This shows Ukraine's dependence on Western military support, and highlights the risks that NATO countries may face if they decide to supply long-range weapons to Kiev.

The current situation presents a tense and complicated picture between Russia and the West, as negotiations on arms supplies to Ukraine continue. Russia has repeatedly warned that supplying modern weapons to Ukraine would not only influence the conflict but could also lead to unforeseen regional and global consequences.

As the conflict continues, comments and warnings from both sides suggest that the security situation in Eastern Europe will remain tense, and the use of long-range weapons could increase the risk of military escalation.
