The explosion reportedly occurred at an arms depot in the town of Toropets in Russia’s Tver region. Unverified videos and photos on social media showed a huge fireball rising into the night sky and multiple explosions heard over a lake about 380 km (240 miles) west of Moscow, according to Reuters.

NASA satellites detected intense heat sources emanating from an area about 14 square kilometers at the site early in the morning, and earthquake monitoring stations detected data that sensors interpreted as a small earthquake in the area.
Russian state media previously reported that a large weapons cache was located at the site of the explosion.

A source in Ukraine's SBU security service told Reuters that the drone attack destroyed a warehouse storing Russian missiles, guided bombs and artillery shells.
The Ukrainian government did not immediately comment.

According to estimates by expert George William Herbert of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in California (USA), the scale of the main explosion shown in the video on social networks could be equivalent to 200-240 tons of high explosives exploding.
Russian officials said schools in the area had been closed. A local evacuation was also ordered in Toropets after falling debris from a drone sparked a fire. Russian medical officials said 13 people were injured in the drone attacks in Tver but their lives were not in danger. Another 15 people were being examined by doctors, according to TASS.
