On August 6, Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Hoa (born in 1986), residing in Vinh Phu ward, Nghe An province, a nurse working at the Anti-Poison Department, Nghe An General Hospital, recounted to Dan Tri reporter the moment she saved the life of a tourist who had a cardiac arrest while visiting Hoa Lu ancient town, Ninh Binh province.
According to Ms. Hoa, at around 10 p.m. on August 2, while walking with her relatives in the Old Quarter, she saw many people gathering and shouting. Approaching, she discovered a young man lying unconscious on the sidewalk, foaming at the mouth, unresponsive.

“At that time, I quickly checked and saw that the victim had lost his femoral and carotid pulses. I immediately performed chest compressions, while performing compressions, I observed his vital signs. After about a minute, the victim gradually regained his pulse, his limbs began to move, and he was able to drink water,” Ms. Hoa said.
After the victim regained consciousness and the local ambulance arrived, she left with the group. According to her, her act of saving the person at that time was completely based on the instinct of a medical staff, trained during many years of working in the emergency department.
“I have been in the medical field for nearly 18 years, including 5 years working in the Poison Control Department, participating in saving many critical cases. At that time, I only thought about keeping the patient alive, nothing else,” Ms. Hoa added.
As for the victim, although she did not know his name, age or specific hometown, nurse Hoa still felt happy and joyful to see him regain consciousness.
“I don’t care who that person is or where they are. As long as I can save someone, I’m happy,” she added.

Ms. Hoa's timely and humane actions were quickly shared widely on social networks, receiving many positive responses from the community, especially those working in the medical industry.
Doctor Nguyen Trong Toan, her colleague at the Poison Control Department, said that resuscitation of cardiac arrest outside the hospital requires a lot of skills, due to the lack of supporting machines. In this case, the person performing the resuscitation must correctly identify the state of cardiac arrest, maintain continuous and accurate chest compressions to save the patient's life.
“Ms. Hoa followed the correct procedure, handled the situation very professionally and accurately. As colleagues, we feel very happy and proud,” Dr. Toan shared.
Ms. Hoa’s actions not only contributed to saving a person’s life but also spread the spirit of compassion and noble medical ethics. Such actions do not need to be grand, do not need to be in the emergency room but can shine brightly in the middle of everyday life.
