A jury has found Donald Trump guilty on 34 counts in a case accusing the former president of falsifying business records to pay hush money to a porn star ahead of the 2016 election.
On May 30, a court in New York convicted former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
At the end of a seven-week trial, a 12-member jury in Manhattan Supreme Court found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts in a lawsuit accusing the billionaire of falsifying business records to pay hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
With this verdict, Mr. Donald Trump has become the first former president in US history to be convicted of a criminal offense.
Prosecutors allege that Mr. Trump engaged in a conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election and acted to conceal a payment to Stormy Daniels to keep the star from revealing that she had an affair with Mr. Trump in a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 2006.
As soon as he left the courtroom, former President Donald Trump criticized the court's ruling as "unfair, disgraceful and fraudulent."
The Republican presidential candidate also criticized President Joe Biden's administration for fraud and plotting to hurt his political opponent.
Judge Juan Merchan said Mr. Trump's sentencing hearing will take place on July 11, just three days before the Republican National Convention.
According to the New York Times, Mr. Donald Trump could face a sentence of 16 months to 4 years in prison.
However, due to his age and clean record, Mr. Trump could serve a shorter sentence or not be imprisoned at all.
