OpenAI did not disclose financial details of the latest deal announced on Wednesday (May 22), but the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), owned by News Corp, reported that the deal could be worth more than $250 million over five years.
The partnership agreement also includes a guarantee that content will not be available on ChatGPT immediately after being published on one of News Corp's news sites, the WSJ reported.
The deal will give OpenAI access to current and archived content from several News Corp publications, including the WSJ, MarketWatch, the Times and others. News Corp shares rose about 4% following the announcement.

The deal comes weeks after the AI giant secured a content licensing deal with the Financial Times to develop AI models. Such partnerships are important for training AI models, as access to massive troves of data can help improve the quality of the content ChatGPT produces.
OpenAI, the company that started the AI craze when it launched its ChatGPT chatbot in 2022, also struck a content deal with social network Reddit last week.
The deal could also benefit news publishers, which often take a big bite out of profits from Big Tech using their content without permission.
