On the morning of November 5, due to heavy rains causing flooding on many roads, many schools in Da Nang announced that students would be off school. Some school kitchens were unable to cope.

According to records this morning, at Bui Thi Xuan Primary School (Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City), many teachers and parents visited the school's kitchen to "rescue" food when the announcement was made that students would be off school.

Ms. An Binh (a student's parent) said that she woke up early this morning and checked her messages and saw that there was no announcement of a school closure. She took her child to school and then arrived at work before receiving the notification message.

She took a day off from work to go to school to pick up her child. She saw many teachers stopping by the school kitchen to "rescue" food, so she bought some food.

"Most kitchens prioritize reselling items like chicken, peeled carrots, sweet potato leaves, dragon fruit, etc. I bought some because I saw there was too much, it was also convenient, killing two birds with one stone, no need to go to the market," said Ms. Binh.

Following the direction of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, education departments based on the rain and flooding situation in the area have plans for students to stay home from school.

Early this morning, Hai Chau district announced that students would be off school, but some districts had to grasp the situation and schools were quite late in finalizing plans for students to be off school.

An independent nursery school owner in Cam Le district said: "This morning I had to check to see if there were any teachers whose houses were in flooded areas.

Then, we conducted a survey of parents' opinions before deciding to let the children stay home from school. Breakfast was prepared with chicken porridge, but the children stayed home so the teachers divided the food among themselves."

However, because of previous experience with flooding, some schools have allowed their kitchens to "work at a moderate pace" and not prepare food early when they see heavy rain, waiting for further notice.

As soon as there is a notice of school closure, the school's food supplier will come to pick up the food as promised.
