The West has not "let go" of sanctions against Russia, similar to the way it used them with China.

Speaking to Sputnik on November 4, former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Russia Alexei Mozhin said that the West will not lift sanctions against Russia in the near future.

According to Mr. Mozhin, this strategy is similar to the way the West uses with China - using a policy of deterrence to restrain economic development.

He affirmed: "The conflict between Russia and the West will continue. I do not believe they will lift the sanctions."

As for the European Union (EU), to date, the bloc has imposed a total of 14 sanctions against Russia, and has extended all sanctions against Moscow for another 6 months, until January 31, 2025.

The decision includes sanctions imposed in 2014, after Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula.

The new measures were imposed from February 2022, when Moscow launched a special military operation in Kiev.

The sanctions include restrictive measures in the trade, financial, technological, industrial, and transport sectors, as well as restrictions on imports of oil and petrochemical products from Russia, and restrictions on exports to Russia of luxury goods and dual-use goods.

The 27-member bloc also imposes sanctions on actions aimed at circumventing sanctions.

At the same time, the EU, the US and many other countries signed cooperation agreements to support Ukraine in many aspects.
