In early August, many items of Long Thanh International Airport ( Dong Nai ) are being urgently constructed despite the erratic weather. In the photo is package 5.10 - construction of the passenger terminal of component project 3 with a total investment of 35,000 billion VND, implemented by the Vietur joint venture. All packages of component project 3 (essential works) are being constructed simultaneously by ACV on the entire site with hundreds of construction teams. Nearly 13,000 experts, engineers, workers, laborers and about 3,000 pieces of equipment are mobilized to speed up the progress. The entire component project 3 has 14 packages, of which 3 packages have been completed and the remaining 11 packages are under construction. To date, the total value of the volume is about 40,316 billion VND, reaching 51%. The passenger terminal project alone is being deployed with 4,700 personnel and more than 1,000 machines and equipment. To date, the joint venture contractor has completed 99% of the steel roof structure volume, and is expected to complete the entire central roof structure before August 15. The construction unit has installed most of the skylight glass on the roof of Long Thanh airport passenger terminal. This type of glass helps the terminal get natural light.
Pictured is the fixed bridge connecting the passenger terminal and the aircraft parking area. According to the design, there are 32 bridges, arranging 40 parking positions for Code C, E and F aircraft. Runway No. 1 has been energized and "lit up". On the morning of August 1, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) coordinated to conduct the first calibration flight at Long Thanh airport. At the same time, after 3 consecutive days of flying (July 31 - August 2), the flight crew completed all the flight procedure assessments according to PBN standards at Long Thanh airport. Investor ACV has also completed the selection of contractors in special cases, starting construction of the second runway on May 30. The contractor consortium mobilized more than 283 engineers and workers with 127 machines and equipment for construction. About 1 km away are the facilities serving flight management including the air traffic control tower, auxiliary items, flight management services, and equipment. On July 21, the Long Thanh airport air traffic control tower project (started in September 2023) completed the roof pouring work at an altitude of +123 m. Long Thanh Airport's control tower is 123 m high, with a construction area of about 80 m2, a body diameter of 10 m, and a radar installed on top. This is the tallest structure in the area, ensuring visibility of the entire runway, taxiway and apron. The structure and its auxiliary items have a total investment of 3,500 billion VND, playing the role of a flight operations control center.
Currently, a series of headquarters buildings of management agencies such as airport authorities, customs, immigration management, local police... have gradually taken shape, ready for operation from 2026. In particular, the headquarters of the Southern Airport Authority is completing interior items, technical infrastructure and surrounding landscape. On the afternoon of August 2, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the Long Thanh airport project site and encouraged officials, workers and laborers. The head of the Government also chaired a meeting to urge construction progress.
With the basic goal of completing the project by December 19, moving towards commercial exploitation in early 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries, branches, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Dong Nai province, investors, contractors, consultants, engineers, workers, and laborers to complete the work. Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai) is a national key project with a capital scale of about 5 billion USD for phase 1. This will be the largest airport in Vietnam in the future with an area of 5,364 hectares and a capacity to serve up to 100 million passengers per year.
