Hot ticket situation

FAS has opened ticket sales for the first leg of the AFF Cup 2024 semi-final between Singapore and Vietnam at 8pm on December 26 (Vietnam time), at Jalan Besar Stadium, which has a capacity of only 6,000 seats. Tickets for this match were quickly sold out in just a few hours. FAS only provided 250 tickets to Vietnamese fans, and the tickets were sold at a fixed price of 38 USD (about 1 million VND), according to The Straits Times .

"With the demand for tickets so high, speculators are reselling tickets from Singapore fans sitting in the home stands on social media and online, at prices four times higher than the official price. Black market prices have now risen to more than $200 per ticket (about more than VND5 million)," The Straits Times added.

Accordingly, FAS sold most of the tickets to Singaporean fans to support the home team, a total of about 5,375 tickets, including the prices of 49 USD (about 1.2 million VND), 35 USD (890,000 VND) and 24 USD (over 610,000 VND). These tickets were sold out at 6:20 p.m. on December 22. However, realizing that the demand of Vietnamese fans to buy tickets to support the home team was too great, many speculators or Singaporean fans tried to resell them at very high prices.

On December 23, FAS had to issue a warning: "We cannot guarantee the authenticity of tickets resold on social media and/or online shopping platforms.

If away fans buy tickets from resellers and sit in the home fans' section, they will be refused entry. They will even be ejected immediately if security detects that you have entered the stadium and are sitting in the home fans' section. Away fans are only allowed in the away fans' section.

Meanwhile, Singapore team captain Hariss Harun went to the ticket office to give away 10 tickets to lucky Singapore fans. He said: "I hope Singapore fans will keep their tickets and come to the stadium to support the home team. This is the first time in many years that football fever has returned. I hope you will stir up Jalan Besar Stadium to help the players have the strength to face the very strong Vietnam team."

The Vietnamese team left for Singapore on December 23.

In the 2024 AFF Cup group stage, the Singapore team will play their home matches at the National Stadium, which has a capacity of up to 55,000 seats. However, in the semi-finals, they will have to move to Jalan Besar Stadium, which has a capacity of only 6,000 spectators and an artificial turf field, because the main stadium is scheduled to host entertainment events.

According to many Singaporean fans, in fact, FAS did not foresee the possibility of their team reaching the semi-finals of the AFF Cup. Therefore, they did not prepare in advance to use the national stadium throughout the tournament. The Vietnamese team at the AFF Cup 2024 also did not use the main stadium My Dinh, when choosing Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province with a capacity of about 20,000 seats to play.
