In the 2024-2025 school year, the Provincial Science and Technology Research Competition for junior high and high school students in the province has 94 outstanding projects selected from 223 projects in localities; including 57 projects of high school students, 37 projects of junior high school students with 181 groups of authors, 94 teachers and instructors. The topics span 15 fields, notably those related to artificial intelligence (AI), environmental protection, preservation of national culture, support for people with disabilities, etc., demonstrating the connection between school knowledge and practical issues of life.
As a result, the 50 best projects were awarded, including: 5 first prizes, 15 second prizes, 15 third prizes and 15 fourth prizes. The average score of the projects was 77.78, with no project scoring below 50 points, demonstrating the serious investment and increasing quality of the products.
Of which, 3 projects were selected to participate in the National Science and Technology Competition, namely: “The impact of using ChatGPT on the learning of high school students” by Ha Long High School for the Gifted; “Research and manufacture of inorganic flame retardant paint systems from nanographite and additives” by Cam Pha High School; “Research and manufacture of adsorbent materials from Quang Ninh oyster shells to treat heavy metals Manganese (Mn)” by Hong Hai Secondary School. The topics all have high research content and clearly demonstrate the desire to contribute science to the community.
After 9 times of organization, the Provincial TTNDN Creativity Contest has become an attractive annual playground for young people with a passion for science. From the contest, many product ideas and creative models have been applied and realized in production and life.
The 9th TTNND Innovation Contest, 2024 attracted 181 topics in 5 fields: IT, electronics, telecommunications; technical solutions to respond to climate change, environmental protection and economic development; environmentally friendly products... In which topics on IT, electronics, telecommunications and environmentally friendly products were highly appreciated for their quantity and quality. Authors and groups of authors used many applications of AI in the topics, recycled materials were used to the maximum with many high applications.
At the competition, the PLANTSR software project - an AI solution for caring for and detecting diseases on guava trees by students of Ha Long High School for the Gifted won the special prize. The project was carried out by Tran Thai Hung and Luong Gia Minh, both students with many high achievements in scientific and technological research.
This software integrates many modern technologies, such as using AI to diagnose plant diseases; automatic IoT system integrated on smartphones to manage and control crops, automatic irrigation, measure soil pH, weather forecast; mobile software system implementing independent algorithm programs; forum for exchanging professional content for users to interact. The software has a simple interface, easy to use, and is capable of detecting guava diseases with high accuracy. Currently, the software is applied in some guava gardens in Quang Ninh, achieving positive results.
Many competitions and contests are organized, creating an environment and motivation for many subjects to study, research, approach and grasp technology. From there, many typical examples in scientific research are promptly discovered and honored; advances and initiatives are applied and implemented in practice.
