Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí05/08/2024

Costa Rica is the 73rd country to recognize Vietnam as a market economy in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations.
According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade , on August 5, with the consent of Mr. Rodrigo Chaves, President of Costa Rica, Costa Rican Foreign Trade Minister Manuel Tovar directly announced and handed over a diplomatic note on Costa Rica's recognition of Vietnam as a market economy. Thus, up to now, 73 countries have recognized Vietnam's market economy status, including major economies such as the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc. Costa Rica is a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD - an organization of 38 countries with the most developed market economies in the world). The Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that Costa Rica's handing over of a diplomatic note recognizing Vietnam as a market economy in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations is a positive move. Especially in the context that Vietnam is asking a number of trade partners to recognize its market economy status.

"Costa Rica's recognition of Vietnam as a country with a market economy reflects the reality of the achievements that Vietnam has made in the process of national development and integration into the world economy. At the same time, it will contribute to promoting the development of bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries," the leader of the Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed. Previously, on August 2, the US Department of Commerce continued to not recognize Vietnam as a country with a market economy despite recording many positive changes. In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said it will study and analyze the arguments in the US Department of Commerce's Vietnam Economic Assessment Report. After that, this agency will supplement and complete the arguments to send a dossier requesting the US to reconsider Vietnam's market economy status.
