Sharing at a press conference on the afternoon of April 8, Mr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Department of Radio Frequency (Ministry of Information and Communications), said that in March, the Ministry of Information and Communications auctioned the right to use 5G frequency band for network operators.

The auction results help businesses get frequencies to deploy broadband telecommunications services.

According to the radio frequency auction results, Viettel won the auction for the B1 band (2,500 - 2,600 MHz) with a price of more than 7,500 billion VND, while VNPT won the auction for the C2 band (3,700 - 3,800 MHz) with a price of more than 2,500 billion VND.

As for the C3 frequency block (3800 - 3900 MHz), because only one enterprise paid a deposit to participate in the auction, and there were not enough enterprises qualified to participate in the auction according to the provisions of the Law on Property Auction, the auction of the C3 frequency block was unsuccessful.

After the results were available, the Ministry of Information and Communications approved the winning bid results for the B1 frequency block (2500 - 2600 MHz) and the C2 frequency block (3700 - 3800 MHz). By April 8, Viettel had completed its financial obligations as prescribed; VNPT is completing payment procedures and is expected to complete these obligations on April 9.

After businesses pay the winning auction price for the frequency band, the Ministry of Information and Communications will consider granting a frequency band usage license according to regulations.

With the unsuccessful auction of the C3 frequency block, according to the provisions of Decree 63, the starting price of the C3 frequency block will be the price paid by the enterprise bidding for the C2 frequency block. That is, after VNPT is licensed, the price paid by VNPT will be officially used as the starting price for the re-auction of the C3 frequency block.

After granting the frequency band license to VNPT, the Radio Frequency Department will immediately initiate the process of reporting to the leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications to re-auction the C3 frequency band. If there is still only one enterprise participating in the auction, this frequency band may be resold to that enterprise according to regulations.

This is the first time the Ministry of Information and Communications has successfully auctioned radio frequencies. After the two auctioned frequency blocks were granted to businesses, the amount of frequencies granted to mobile communications has increased by 59% compared to the present.

"The auction results help businesses get frequencies to deploy broadband telecommunications services. The amount of frequency that all businesses are currently granted is 340 MHz, with the additional 200 MHz of bandwidth, the quality of mobile broadband services will certainly increase," Mr. Tuan affirmed.
