At the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations and conduct bilateral activities there.
The dialogue partnership between ASEAN and Japan was established in 1973. Over the past 50 years, Japan has actively promoted its strategic partnership and effective cooperation with ASEAN. In return, ASEAN has always needed Japan's support to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous Southeast Asia. Over the past half century, ASEAN and Japan have become indispensable partners, bringing great benefits to both sides.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1973. In 2023, Vietnam and Japan will hold many events in both countries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
On the basis of a long history of friendship, the Vietnam-Japan relationship has made significant progress. The two countries have successively established a framework for the relationship from a long-term, stable and trustworthy partnership in 2002 to a strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2009, an extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2014, and upgraded the Vietnam-Japan relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world in November 2023.
Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner and was the first G7 country to recognize Vietnam's market economy status in 2011. Japan is also Vietnam's largest ODA donor, second largest investor and fourth largest trading partner.
In Japan, there are about 500,000 Vietnamese people working, living and studying.
