Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh: Proposes the US to further open its market to Vietnamese goods

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh works with leading US technology companies to promote early recognition of Vietnam's market economy status

On the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on the afternoon of September 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the US Trade Representative for his contributions to the development of Vietnam - US bilateral relations in recent times.

At the same time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides actively coordinate to quickly realize the agreements of the two countries' senior leaders, including the US prioritizing the promotion of the roadmap to recognize Vietnam's market economy status, further opening the market for Vietnamese goods such as textiles, footwear, and agricultural products.

In addition, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the United States to properly consider the interests of Vietnamese enterprises and not apply trade defense measures against Vietnamese goods on the basis of ensuring balance, equality, and mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister also proposed that the two sides create breakthroughs in cooperation in science and technology, innovation, education and training; and asked the United States to support Vietnam in building a supply chain related to semiconductor chips.

US Trade Representative Katherine Tai affirmed the significance and importance of the two countries establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership framework, considering this an opportunity for both sides to cooperate to promote economic and trade relations. US Trade Representative Katherine Tai recalled her deep impressions when visiting Vietnam and the visit helped her understand more about Vietnam.

Ms. Katherine Tai affirmed that the United States always considers Vietnam an important partner in the region; wishes to continue promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation and the US Trade Representative Office will play a role in continuing to promote relations between the two countries in the coming time.

Ms. Katherine Tai also informed about the progress and hoped that Vietnam would continue to participate in supporting efforts to soon conclude negotiations on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) to bring common benefits to countries and people in the region.

During this working trip, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien joined the official delegation of Vietnam accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the High-level General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly and had many important foreign affairs activities.
