Commercialization of technological research

Báo Sài Gòn Giải phóngBáo Sài Gòn Giải phóng30/04/2024

Many research results of young scientists at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park Research and Development Center (R&D Center) have been realized into products and commercialized on the market.

The R&D Center was established in 2004, focusing on research on nanotechnology, semiconductor technology, precision mechanics - automation, biotechnology, functional foods... Up to now, the center has had a total of 17 state-level, ministerial-level, and city-level projects; more than 100 grassroots-level topics; 13 exclusive patents. In particular, more than 20 research products of young scientists have been transferred technology and commercialized to the market, bringing benefits to the community, such as: flood monitoring system, Bio Urgo Spray wound dressing, Mr. Five pesticide, nano curcumin material, sunscreen pills, Akay rice...

Notably, the Silicon Carbide Pressure Sensor System project, researched by the R&D Center in 2019, was installed and used in more than 20 locations in Thu Duc City (HCMC) in the form of flood warning monitoring stations in November 2022. The sensor system is mounted in the auxiliary well area next to the drainage culvert, connected according to the communicating vessel principle. When the water rises, the water pressure will act on the sensor membrane and transmit flood warning data to the server, displayed on the mobile application and website so that people can know information about the flood situation and choose the appropriate route. All data is sent to the Thu Duc City Smart Operations Center, from which the management agency can assess the flood situation in the area, propose appropriate urban infrastructure management and operation plans, etc.

In the field of health care, in 2013, scientists of the center successfully researched and manufactured nano curcumin material (raw material in Nacur Vital's turmeric essence product), the product was transferred technology and commercialized in 2016. The representative of the research team said that Nacur Vital turmeric essence is a health protection product, with a nano curcumin content of 10%, has anti-inflammatory effects, enhances liver function, detoxifies the liver, heals wounds, reduces damage to the stomach lining, reduces side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, supports treatment for cancer patients...

Dr. Trinh Xuan Thang, Deputy Director in charge of the R&D Center, said that the unit's goal is to gradually incubate successful enterprises under the center and coordinate with enterprises to commercialize products, in order to gradually fulfill the mission assigned by the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park. The unit is also striving to become a model of an international standard research center according to the project issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in December 2023. “The R&D Center has made constant efforts to seek and expand cooperation with institutes, schools, businesses, and experts to research products with high-tech intellectual content. The Center is also a focal point for scientific and technological cooperation, a place to receive research orders, product testing, and scientific and technological topics from businesses, institutes, schools, and incubators when needed. Currently, the R&D staff consists of about 60 people, including 7 PhDs, 20 masters, and a team of international experts and overseas Vietnamese with strengths in research on microchips, integrated electronic circuits, nanotechnology, etc., basically meeting the needs of scientific research at the unit,” shared Dr. Trinh Xuan Thang.

The R&D Center has just signed a cooperation agreement with Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Hutech University, Vietnam Institute of Medicine and Natural Active Ingredients Research, Mediworld Company Limited and NANO JA Technology Application Production and Trading Company Limited to expand applied research activities. According to the center's representative, this cooperation is very important, contributing to creating a link between training, research, and incubation, thereby increasing the transfer rate and commercialization of research products right from the laboratory.
