Phuong Bread Shop in Hoi An temporarily closed after many people were poisoned.

On September 13, Hoi An City Medical Center ( Quang Nam province) reported the initial results of the investigation, monitoring and handling of the food poisoning case after eating bread at a store in the city.

At noon on September 13, speaking with SGGP reporters, Hoi An City leaders said that while waiting for the inspection and testing results, the authorities have requested the bakery to temporarily suspend operations. According to the records, the shop has posted a notice that it is closed today, September 13.

According to Hoi An City Medical Center, on the afternoon of September 12, the Center received information that 5 people in a family were poisoned after eating Phuong bread (No. 2B Phan Chau Trinh Street, Minh An Ward, Hoi An City).

Immediately afterwards, Hoi An City Medical Center established a food poisoning investigation team to obtain initial information and investigate and handle the case.

The inspection team came to take food samples at the bread production facility.

Through information exploitation, the initial investigation team recorded that not only the 5 people above were poisoned by eating Phuong bread, but also many others who were being treated at a number of hospitals in Quang Nam and Da Nang such as: Thai Binh Duong Hospital - Hoi An, Hoi An Medical Center, An Cuong Clinic - Hoi An, Hoan My Da Nang Hospital.

As of 6 p.m. on September 12, the team recorded a total of 31 people poisoned by eating Phuong bread, of which 5 were treated as outpatients, the rest were being treated at the above hospitals.

Most of the patients had symptoms of high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and frequent and prolonged loose stools. The patients' meal times were scattered from 8:00 a.m. on September 11 to 8:00 p.m. the same day. The interval between the onset of symptoms and the time of eating was at least 2 hours and at most 16 hours (incubation period from 2-16 hours). According to the statements of the poisoned people, they all ate Phuong bread.

The food poisoning investigation and monitoring team supervised and inspected the above-mentioned facility. At the time of monitoring, the team requested the facility to keep relevant food samples and seal and preserve the samples according to regulations to send to the provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department for testing to determine the cause of food poisoning.
