Of these, 5 projects have completed compensation, relocation, site clearance and handed over the site to agencies and units to build works such as embankments, drainage systems along the route, dredging and environmental improvement. In addition, there are 6 other projects that are accelerating compensation, relocation and site clearance, including key projects such as dredging and environmental improvement of Xuyen Tam canal and the project to improve the North bank of Doi canal. These projects are typical achievements to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

According to the current capital allocation plan, with the efforts and determination of localities, it is expected that by the end of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will complete compensation and relocation of 5,548 out of a total of 6,500 houses, reaching 85.35% of the set target. This result demonstrates the continuous efforts of the entire political system in the process of urban development and renovation.

In addition to the achievements, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is well aware of the remaining challenges. Currently, there are about 39,600 houses on and along rivers, canals and ditches that have not been resolved, distributed in 398 projects, rivers, canals and ditches spread across 16 wards and communes.

With a long-term vision towards building a civilized and modern city, Ho Chi Minh City is developing a Project on Urban and Residential Area Improvement on and along rivers, canals and ditches for the period 2025-2030. The goal of the project is to basically relocate and resettle all people living on and along rivers, canals and ditches by 2030. At the same time, the project aims to clear the flow, improve environmental sanitation, invest in infrastructure construction, develop parks and public spaces, as well as effectively exploit land funds along rivers, canals and ditches to promote sustainable economic development and comprehensive urban improvement.

This is a big challenge, requiring high determination and scientific and humane implementation methods. The project has been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and localities have proactively developed appropriate projects to concretize the goals set out in the city's urban development process.
