Children under 1 year old will receive free Rota vaccine to prevent acute diarrhea.

(DN)- On June 24 and 25, the Department of Health organized a training conference on Coordinating the implementation of medical history checks and catch-up vaccinations for children at preschools and primary schools (grade 1) in the province. At the same time, training was provided on the implementation of the Rota vaccine in the National Expanded Immunization Program and vaccination safety in 2025.

The training course was attended by about 100 medical staff from the Department of Health, Department of Education and Training, hospitals, medical centers, and education departments in the province.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Luu Van Dung said that the diseases that have vaccines in the National Expanded Immunization Program are dangerous, contagious infectious diseases that can easily spread and become epidemics. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has increased the number of children who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated. This has created "immunity gaps" in the community. This is a risk factor for epidemics such as measles, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, hepatitis B, etc.

The Department of Health leaders emphasized that checking vaccination history and organizing catch-up vaccinations for children at preschools and primary schools are necessary measures to narrow the “immunity gap” and prevent disease outbreaks and spread. This activity will be implemented nationwide in 2025.

In addition, the inclusion of Rota vaccine to prevent acute diarrhea in the Expanded Immunization Program from 2024 is an important step forward in preventing acute diarrhea in young children, especially in remote areas.

In 2025, Rota vaccine will be deployed free of charge in many localities across the country, and nationwide by 2026. Thereby, helping Vietnamese children access another necessary, free vaccine, helping to reduce the rate of hospitalization, death and medical costs caused by acute diarrhea.
