Mr. Guterres called for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip, and thanked Egypt for facilitating humanitarian access through Rafah, the only border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

On October 12, Jordan sent its first aid shipment to the Gaza Strip. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country has begun deploying humanitarian aid to civilians affected by the war.

On the same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel as part of an extended tour of the Middle East, to demonstrate US support for Israel. In addition, Mr. Blinken's trip also aims to contribute to reaching an agreement to release hostages being held by Hamas - some of whom are US citizens - and to establish a safe corridor for civilians in the Gaza Strip to move out of the densely populated area.

According to Reuters news agency, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to meet with US Secretary of State on October 13.

Meanwhile, White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby announced that the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower - the second aircraft carrier of the US Navy, will be deployed to the Mediterranean next week.

White House officials said the US is ready to act if necessary if the conflict between Hamas and Israel escalates.

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to meet on the afternoon of October 13 to discuss the current conflict in the Gaza Strip. Many countries are also continuing to carry out activities to bring their citizens back from Israel.

On October 12, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel said that a group of 15 Vietnamese agricultural trainees living near the town of Sredot (near the Gaza Strip) were moved to Malakhi City, about 40km from the Gaza Strip, to ensure safety.
