VnExpressVnExpress24/06/2023

Prigozhin ordered Wagner members advancing towards Moscow to turn around and return to base to "avoid bloodshed", following negotiations by the Belarusian president.

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a recording on the evening of June 24 (early morning of June 25, Hanoi time) that members of the private security group had entered within 200 km of the Moscow region. He asked them to turn back and return to base to "avoid bloodshed".

Minutes before Prigozhin made his statement, the Office of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that with Putin's consent, Lukashenko had used a private communication channel to talk to Prigozhin several times throughout June 24.

"The parties agreed not to allow unnecessary bloodshed on Russian territory. Yevgeny Prigozhin accepted the proposal from President Lukashenko, ordering Wagner members to stop all military operations in Russian territory and take steps to reduce tensions," the Belarusian President's Office said.
