Funeral and burial of 11 martyrs' remains recently found in Quang Tri

(Dan Tri) - Economic - Defense Group 337 coordinated with local authorities in Quang Tri province to hold a memorial service and bury the remains of 11 martyrs that had just been collected.


On the morning of December 17, at the Martyrs Cemetery of Huong Hoa district ( Quang Tri ), a memorial service and burial ceremony for 11 martyrs' remains took place.

The martyrs' remains were searched for and recovered by Economic - Defense Group 337 (Military Region 4) in Ta Rung village, Huc commune and Khe Sanh town (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province) from July 25 to December 13.

After the memorial service, the martyrs' remains were brought to the burial area at the Huong Hoa District Martyrs' Cemetery (Photo: Cong Sang).

The remains were found at a depth of 1.2m, wrapped in a tent, hammock and many teeth, arm bones, leg bones, jaw bones... Accompanying them were relics such as a tent, hammock, parachute cord, shoe soles, thick buttons, fountain pens, shirt buttons, union badges...

In particular, among the accompanying relics, there is a 5cm long piece of aluminum engraved with the words "Truong Thanh Y - January 21".

Through verification, the authorities have information about martyr Truong Thanh Y (born in 1948), originally from Nghia Thinh, Nghia Hung, Ha Nam Ninh (now Nam Dinh ); unit of Regiment 9, Division 304, sacrificed on January 20, 1968.

At the memorial service, delegates attending the ceremony, along with officers and soldiers of Economic - Defense Group 337 and local people, respectfully offered incense and flowers, respectfully bowed, and expressed gratitude for the great contributions of the heroes and martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and for the happiness of the people.

After the memorial service, the remains of 11 martyrs were buried in graves at the Martyrs Cemetery of Huong Hoa district.
