• Set up U Minh forest trap

Mr. Huynh Tan Loi is famous for his craft of weaving baskets in the U Minh Ha cajuput forest.

These days, the craft of weaving traps to serve people during the flood season is also very busy. Mr. Huynh Tan Loi, Da Bac commune, has devoted his whole life to the craft of whittling bamboo and weaving traps, saying: "A trap is a tool used to catch fish, usually woven from bamboo, nets, with a lure made from old bamboo trees at the top, placed at the bottom of the water, the tail of the trap is sealed, protruding above the water surface for the fish to breathe. Every year, I make hundreds of traps for people in the U Minh Ha forest. During the flood season, almost every family in the forest has a few traps to catch fish to improve their meals, and those who specialize in making traps buy dozens, even hundreds of traps from me."

In the U Minh forest area, there are many people who make a living by fishing during the flood season.

In the forest land, the flood season is also the time when products under the forest canopy flourish. In addition to farming, people make a living by fishing, setting traps, and setting traps... In the rice fields and cajuput forests this season, there are hundreds of traps set by farmers in the eager expectation of catching a lot of fish.

The best place to place the trap is in a place where there are many reeds, ferns, grasses, and vegetables growing, where there will be many types of fish, turtles, snakes...

On their land, Mr. Pham Duy Khanh and Mr. Le Van Suol, Hamlet 10, Da Bac Commune, placed more than 40 traps. After a few days, they caught dozens of kilos of snakehead fish, striped snakehead fish, perch, even giant snakeheads, turtles, etc., earning several million dong and stabilizing their lives.

Dozens of kilos of freshwater fish after each fishing trip bring Mr. Pham Duy Khanh several million dong, increasing his income.

Setting traps, a profession that has existed with people for nearly a hundred years, has become a cultural feature in the life of the U Minh Ha forest.
