Relations between the US and South Africa have deteriorated with the US government's decision to expel the South African ambassador.
The reason is that when speaking to a media outlet, this ambassador made statements about the Washington administration's policies that were assessed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as "racist" and "hating President Donald Trump".
