Vietnam female player gets married

Center back Tran Thi Thu of the Vietnam women's team and the Ho Chi Minh City women's club held a wedding on January 6.

Tran Thi Thu married her girlfriend Nguyen Thi Thuong in Ho Chi Minh City. The same-sex couple has been dating publicly since 2022. This is the first time a Vietnamese female football player has publicly announced a same-sex marriage.

On the big day, Tran Thi Thu wore a suit and was happy with the bride. Many of Thu's teammates at the club level and the Vietnam national team came to congratulate her, such as Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Tran Thi Duyen, Hoang Thi Loan, Chuong Thi Kieu, Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Pham Hai Yen... Some former players were also present such as Luu Ngoc Mai, Kim Hong.

Tran Thi Thu was born in 1991 in Quang Ngai and joined the youth training center of Ho Chi Minh City Club in 2006. This defender has been playing consistently until now with eight national championships with Ho Chi Minh City Club.

In 2017, Thu was first called up to the Vietnam national team and has played 32 matches so far. Her memorable achievements include winning the gold medal at the 31st and 32nd SEA Games and most recently participating in the 2023 World Cup. At the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, Thu and goalkeeper Kim Thanh played the most outstandingly when they had to constantly work against big opponents such as the US, the Netherlands and Portugal.

After the end of the 2023 season, Thu's contract with Ho Chi Minh City Club will expire but she has not decided whether to continue or move to another club.
