Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized that the Vietnam-UK trade and investment relationship has made remarkable progress over the past 10 years. The effective implementation of the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) and the UK becoming the 12th official member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans -Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) have created a “double push” for bilateral economic cooperation. In the energy sector, the UK has accompanied Vietnam through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) program, helping Vietnam improve its institutions, increase access to finance and technology to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
At the 14th JETCO meeting, the two sides reached consensus in many practical cooperation areas such as: renewable energy, trade - investment, education and innovation...
In the energy sector, the UK pledged to accompany Vietnam in the energy transition process through bilateral cooperation and the JETP framework. The Vietnamese side updated the situation of completing the policy mechanism for developing renewable energy and offshore wind power in Vietnam. At the same time, it requested the UK to increase support for Vietnam's energy transition process, improve management capacity, train personnel in the renewable energy sector and support Vietnam in building a sustainable renewable energy supply chain.
In the field of bilateral trade and investment, Vietnam proposed that both sides actively cooperate to improve efficiency, take advantage of the UKVFTA and CPTPP agreements, support investment and trade promotion, periodically organize activities connecting businesses of the two countries, create favorable conditions for businesses of both sides to participate in each other's markets and cooperate in the field of market management.
In the field of training and capacity building, Vietnam proposed that the UK actively implement cooperation activities in innovation and science and technology, support capacity building for Vietnamese officials, cooperate in teaching English, and improve the quality of university education.
In the agricultural sector, the UK asked Vietnam to support opening the market for UK beef, poultry and seafood products, and welcomed Vietnam's proposal to promote poultry exports to the UK market.

On the same day, within the framework of the UKVFTA Trade Committee Meeting, the two sides reviewed the progress of the Agreement implementation, and assessed the results achieved in the areas of trade in goods, customs, services - investment and sustainable development. The two sides also discussed solutions to remove difficulties in market access, in order to continue promoting more effective and comprehensive trade.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed that the issues agreed upon at JETCO 14 and UKVFTA will continue to be coordinated and implemented by technical agencies of both sides, contributing to enhancing the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long had working sessions with MP Matt Western, the British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Vietnam, leaders of the UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC) and a number of large British enterprises such as HSBC, Prudentials, Arup, BP... During the meetings, both sides agreed to promote investment initiatives in the fields of renewable energy, green finance and digital transformation. UKABC Chairman Stuart Tait affirmed that he will continue to play an effective role as a bridge for the British business community in Vietnam. |
