As of the morning of January 16, Vietnam had 5 representatives on the Forbes billionaire list, including Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong, VietJet Air Chairman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Hoa Phat Chairman Tran Dinh Long, Thaco Chairman Tran Ba Duong and his family, and Techcombank Chairman Ho Hung Anh. Compared to the beginning of the year, the assets of Vietnamese billionaires have recorded fluctuations.

The richest person in Vietnam, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, currently has 4.5 billion USD, ranking 651st in the world according to Forbes. Meanwhile, according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Mr. Vuong's assets reached 8.49 billion USD, ranking 277th in the world. Mr. Vuong was ranked again in the top 500 USD billionaires by Bloomberg according to calculations from this unit since January 3, after Bloomberg took into account the assets of the richest billionaire in Vietnam formed from the car company VinFast .

Previously, Bloomberg had not calculated Mr. Vuong's assets from the electric car company VinFast for many months. According to Bloomberg, Mr. Vuong controls 98.5% of shares in VinFast. However, in the calculation of the statistical unit, the number of shares controlled through Vingroup was eliminated to avoid double counting, the recorded rate was 45%.

VietJet Chairman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao’s assets also decreased by $100 million to $2.3 billion. Hoa Phat Group Chairman Tran Dinh Long’s assets recorded a similar decrease, down to $2.2 billion.

The $100 million decrease also occurred in the assets of the families of Thaco Chairman Tran Ba Duong (Thaco) and Techcombank Chairman Ho Hung Anh. Currently, both billionaires own assets of $1.4 billion.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang first entered the list of world billionaires in 2019 with a fortune of 1.3 billion USD and has appeared 3 times in the magazine's annual updates. In April 2022, Mr. Quang's assets were recorded at 1.9 billion USD, the highest according to Forbes statistics.

Mr. Quang is one of the Vietnamese billionaires who started a successful business in Eastern Europe. Mr. Quang started his business in the 1990s after studying in Russia by selling instant noodles to Vietnamese people living there. In addition to being Chairman of Masan Group, this businessman is also a member of the Board of Directors of Techcombank.
