DNVN - Vietnam aims for the digital economy to contribute 20% and 30% of GDP by 2025 and 2030, respectively. Vietnam will be among the top 30 countries in information technology, competitiveness and innovation by the end of this decade.
Speaking at the workshop "Digital Transformation 2024 - Driving force for Vietnam's digital economic development" on the morning of September 30, Editor-in-Chief of Investment Newspaper Le Trong Minh said that digital development, creating growth based on digital technology and digital data as input factors, has become one of the new key development methods for Vietnam to develop rapidly, sustainably, inclusively, and adapt to challenges in a volatile world.
Developing the digital economy helps people become richer, contributing to helping Vietnam overcome the lower middle-income level by 2025, reach the upper middle-income level by 2030 and reach the high-income level by 2045.

“Vietnam aims to have the digital economy contribute 20% and 30% of GDP by 2025 and 2030, respectively. The proportion of the digital economy in each industry and field will reach at least 10% by 2025, doubling by 2030. Vietnam strives to be among the top 30 countries in information technology, competitiveness index and innovation by the end of this decade,” Mr. Minh emphasized.
According to Mr. Minh, among the tasks and solutions to create the foundation for digital transformation, the development of digital infrastructure, ready to meet the explosive demand for connection and data processing, plays an important role for Vietnam. This includes building and developing high-quality broadband infrastructure nationwide; re-planning the frequency band, developing 5G mobile network infrastructure, and early commercialization of 5G mobile networks.
At the same time, expanding regional and international internet connections, especially developing submarine optical cable lines, making Vietnam one of the regional connection centers; developing Internet of Things (IoT) connection infrastructure...

According to Ms. Rita Mokbel - President of Ericsson Vietnam, Vietnam is making great strides, especially through the 5G frequency auction. 5G will open up a world of vibrant entertainment, engaging education and narrowing the knowledge gap.
New formats such as 4K video, 360-degree experiences, and multi-mode video are increasingly driving 5G data usage and consumption. Better connectivity will bring significant improvements in remote education, smart city development, improved public services, increased digital inclusion, and improved quality of life.
For businesses, 5G is the foundation for efficiency and flexibility, helping to improve productivity, cultivate knowledge and save costs. For example, the manufacturing industry will benefit from adopting Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies, achieving higher efficiency and better quality.
5G is successfully bridging new use cases and enterprise solutions, thanks to its seamless, reliable, and secure connectivity.
Discussing the trend of artificial intelligence (AI) transformation, Ms. Rita Mokbel said that AI is creating strong changes in many industries globally, especially manufacturing, healthcare and logistics. This technology not only automates processes but also enhances decision-making and improves customer interactions.
“In Vietnam, we have seen the application of AI in smart factories. As digital infrastructure continues to expand, AI will play an increasingly important role in driving innovation.
AI’s ability to analyze real-time data opens up new opportunities, from providing forecasts in manufacturing, personalized customer experiences to more efficient supply chain management. These changes will have a profound impact on Vietnam’s digital economy in the future,” affirmed the President of Ericsson Vietnam.
