Vietnam reaffirms strong commitment to the UN agenda

On July 3, at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, paid a courtesy call to Mr. Philemon Yang, President of the 79th UN General Assembly, on the occasion of the beginning of his term of office.

Ambassador Do Hung Viet congratulated President of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang on the positive results achieved by the General Assembly in its 79th session, highly appreciating the theme of “unity in diversity” in the context of multilateralism and the UN facing many challenges. The Ambassador emphasized that dialogue and mutual respect are the foundation for maintaining international peace and security as well as promoting cooperation for sustainable development.

Drawing on Vietnam's historical experience, Ambassador Do Hung Viet wishes to make substantial contributions to post-conflict reconciliation and healing efforts, and is willing to share experiences and further promote Vietnam's role in building sustainable peace.

Mr. Philemon Yang welcomed Vietnam's development and foreign affairs achievements, as well as its increasingly important role at the United Nations; especially appreciated Vietnam's stance and commitment to multilateralism, international law and the UN Charter.

The President of the UN General Assembly wished Ambassador Do Hung Viet a successful term of office, contributing to continuing to enhance Vietnam's image and international position, while effectively contributing to promoting cooperation and dialogue among UN member states.

Previously, from June 30 to July 3, Ambassador Do Hung Viet met with Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Ryder and Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu in a series of activities to meet UN leaders after presenting his credentials.

At the meetings, Ambassador Do Hung Viet thanked the UN for its support and cooperation for Vietnam in recent times, and reaffirmed the S-shaped country's strong commitment to the UN's agenda, especially processes and initiatives to respond to global challenges.
