Vietnam ranked 2nd in the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad

With 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal, the Vietnamese team of 4 students ranked 2nd out of 89 countries and territories participating in the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad.

On the morning of July 30, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the official results of the Vietnamese national team participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) 2024.

Specifically, all 4 students won medals, including 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal. With this result, Vietnam ranked 2nd out of 89 participating countries and territories.

The three students who won Gold Medals include Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province; Giap Vu Son Ha, grade 12, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province; Tran Dang Khoi, grade 12, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.

The Silver Medal went to Do Phu Quoc, a 12th grade student at Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province.

The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad was held from July 21 to July 30, 2024 in Saudi Arabia, with a total of 327 contestants participating.

The exam consists of a theory test and a practical test, each test is completed within 5 hours. This year's practical test is assessed to have many new and topical points, requiring candidates to have the ability to think comprehensively and perform operational skills accurately.

The theoretical exam covers industrial applications of chemistry, environmental pollution control, and advanced materials.

In the medal tally compared to other national teams, the Vietnamese team ranked second with the US team and only behind the Chinese team.

This year's achievement of the Vietnamese national team continues the impressive achievements at ICHO Competitions in the past 5 years.

With a total of 20 contestants competing from 2020-2024, the Vietnamese delegation excellently won 20/20 medals, including 17 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals, continuously being in the top 3 leading countries in terms of the number of Gold Medals./.
