The extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation was held to consider the resignation of Dr. Mai Huu Tin from the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, and to elect a new President of the Federation, ensuring the inheritance and sustainable development of the Vovinam movement domestically and internationally.
At the Conference, delegates agreed that Mr. Mai Huu Tin should resign from the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation.
Along with that, the delegates agreed to elect martial artist Tran Van My - Vice President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation/Chief of Vovinam Viet Vo Dao sect to assume the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation for the 4th term (2023-2028) to replace Mr. Mai Huu Tin who has just resigned.
Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Mai Huu Tin said: “In 2017, I accepted the invitation of Master Nguyen Van Chieu and Mr. Le Quoc An to take on the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation as a sponsor and liaison with domestic and international authorities.
Now I resign from the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation to fully focus on my duties as President of the World Vovinam Federation with the goal of spreading Vietnamese martial arts more strongly internationally towards the Olympics.
The election of Master Tran Van My as President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation is appropriate as the head of the sect will be the head of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation to have a voice of solidarity in directing the movement's activities in the country more strongly.
Meanwhile, in his speech accepting the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, Master Tran Van My expressed his deep gratitude for the great contributions of Dr. Mai Huu Tin to the strong development of Vovinam domestically and internationally.
“In the past 8 years, since Dr. Mai Huu Tin held the position of President of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, the position of Vovinam domestically and internationally has been stabilized and raised to a new level. The Vovinam movement has grown stronger when Dr. Mai Huu Tin created solidarity among martial artists as well as the executive board of the federation.
Over the years, Dr. Mai Huu Tin has used his personal financial resources to sponsor Vovinam activities domestically and internationally, which is an extremely great contribution. Hopefully, focusing on the position of President of the World Vovinam Federation will help Vovinam develop even more strongly," said Master Tran Van My.
In addition, Master Tran Van My also presented the key operational goals of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation in the coming time: Choosing a reasonable operational model for the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, building a streamlined executive committee consisting of functional committees that operate effectively.
Focus on developing and improving the quality of the Vovinam movement among students, armed forces and youth; improving techniques, building a martial arts system closely associated with Vietnamese culture; building a team of highly qualified coaches and referees; enhancing solidarity to develop the Vovinam sect to become stronger.
