Traveling over 100km to save a premature Lao baby in the border area

(Dan Tri) - Doctors at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai traveled more than 100km to save the life of a Laotian baby born prematurely in the border area of Quang Ngai province.

On July 15, the Emergency Team of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai traveled more than 100km to the Bo Y International Border Gate area, Bo Y commune (Quang Ngai province) to successfully rescue a Laotian baby.

That same morning, the hospital's hotline received news that a baby was born at 35 weeks, in respiratory failure, needing medical assistance.

Upon receiving the news, the emergency team traveled more than 100km to the Bo Y International Border Gate area, Bo Y commune, Quang Ngai province to provide emergency care for the baby and the mother.

At the time of admission, the doctors noted that the newborn weighed only 1.9 kg, had rapid breathing, was struggling, had cyanosis of the extremities, could not breastfeed, and showed signs of respiratory failure. In that situation, the team provided first aid, kept the baby warm, provided respiratory support, took intravenous fluids to nourish the baby, and transferred the baby to the ambulance.

During the more than 2-hour journey, the medical team continuously performed professional methods to maintain the baby's breathing until they reached the hospital.

The baby was then transferred to the hospital for intensive treatment. The baby and mother are out of danger and are being monitored and given special care.
