Xiaomi mistakenly deployed an update, many phones can't work

According to GizChina , a recent update released by Xiaomi for some mobile phone models has caused unintended consequences, making many devices unusable. This problem has been reported by users on various online forums, and Xiaomi has also acknowledged it and said that devices from the Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO brands are all affected.

Currently, there is no way to fix the problem, the only solution is to restore factory settings, erasing all user data on the device. This comes with the risk of permanent data loss.

Many Xiaomi phones fail to boot because the company distributes the wrong update

The issue is believed to have originated from an update to a pre-installed system app in MIUI (Xiaomi's custom Android interface). The update was meant for devices running HyperOS, but was accidentally distributed to all MIUI users. The incompatibility caused affected phones to repeatedly reboot after updating the app, and users were also unable to access settings to uninstall the app. Xiaomi has publicly acknowledged the bug on the company's social media channels.

While the update is no longer available on the GetApps store, users will need to seek technical assistance to fix the issue. Xiaomi strongly recommends that people do not attempt to fix it themselves, as it could result in complete data loss for information that has not been backed up.

It's unclear how many people the issue affects, but Xiaomi insists that only a "small number" of users are experiencing the issue. However, the incident highlights the importance of thoroughly testing and selectively distributing software updates to minimize unintended consequences.
