On November 24, information from the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi ( Quang Binh ) said that the hospital had just successfully performed surgery on a patient who had a chopstick pierced through his nose into his skull, causing headaches and loss of vision.

Previously, patient PVT (35 years old, in Bo Trach District, Quang Binh) was transferred to the emergency room with a headache, loss of vision, and discharge from the nose and throat. Upon examination, doctors discovered a large foreign object inside the skull, the patient had intracranial emphysema... so surgery was performed.

According to the patient's family, about 5 months ago, while drinking, Mr. T. had a conflict with someone else, the two got into a fight and Mr. T. was injured. Immediately after, Mr. T. was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment but no abnormalities were found.

Until now, the patient was transferred to the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi and doctors performed surgery to remove a broken chopstick that had penetrated from the nose into the skull. Currently, patient T's health is gradually recovering.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Man, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi, this is a rare case. During treatment, doctors carefully considered and selected the optimal surgical method to avoid complications for the patient.

"This is a rare case and very difficult to treat. Because the fistula is located in the middle of the skull base where there are many blood vessels and nerves. If open surgery is performed, it will be very difficult to treat and endanger the patient's life," said Dr. Man.
