On July 17, Can Tho Children's Hospital announced that since the beginning of June 2025, the hospital's Emergency Department has received and treated 17 cases of children suffering from shock due to Dengue fever.

One typical case is PTCT (11 years old), who was admitted to the hospital with a high fever on the third day, poor appetite, abdominal pain, mild vomiting, cold hands and feet, and low blood pressure. Doctors determined that this was a case of dengue shock and quickly implemented an active anti-shock treatment regimen. After nearly a week of treatment, the child's condition gradually stabilized and he was discharged from the hospital.

The second case is HHTD (7 years old) who was hospitalized in a state of shock after 4 days of high fever and vomiting more than 10 times/day. The family monitored him at home and took him to the hospital when his condition had progressed severely. At the hospital, the child received intensive treatment but still had repeated shocks and had to be ventilated. Currently, the child's health has improved, he has been taken off the ventilator and transferred to the clinical department for further treatment.

Doctors recommend that when children show signs of continuous high fever, frequent vomiting, cold hands and feet, restlessness, fatigue, etc., families should take their children to a medical facility promptly for proper diagnosis and treatment, to avoid possible dangerous complications.

Currently, dengue fever vaccination is a new step forward in disease prevention. Dengue fever vaccine has been licensed by the Ministry of Health for circulation in Vietnam. At Can Tho Children's Hospital, dengue fever vaccine (Qdenga) is being deployed for vaccination for children. Parents can bring their children to the hospital for consultation, testing and vaccination according to the correct protocol.
