Binh Duong Club once affirmed that it would keep its name after the merger of the province and city with Ho Chi Minh City. However, Becamex Binh Duong Club recently unexpectedly sent a request to VFF and VPF to change its name to Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club.

The merger between Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong is considered a major event in the South, affecting football as well. Previously, the leader of Binh Duong Club emphasized that the name "Binh Duong" is very familiar and will be kept intact, to preserve the tradition and image of the "Vietnamese Chelsea" of the past.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC, also affirmed that he will invest heavily to bring Binh Duong Club back to its golden age, while focusing on developing young players for the future.

However, according to the latest information, Becamex Binh Duong Football Club Joint Stock Company - the unit that manages and operates the team - has officially submitted an application to change the name.

In the letter sent to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), the team also expressed its gratitude for the support and facilitation over the past time.

In the document, the club said the name change was based on the policies of the Party and State, as well as the love and trust of fans in the Southern region, especially Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, the old club name "Becamex Binh Duong Football Club" is expected to change to "Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Football Club", applied in V-League and other professional football tournaments.

This move marks an important turning point for Binh Duong Club, closing the one-time brand of Vietnamese football. At the same time, it opens a new direction for Ho Chi Minh City football in the future.
