Malaysian chef comes to Vietnam to promote national spirit

Nasi lemak, ayam masak merah, udang masak lemak cili api… nearly 30 delicious Malaysian dishes were introduced at the Malaysian Food Promotion Festival - Selera Malaysia.

On July 30, the Selera Malaysia Festival - a festival promoting Malaysian cuisine - officially opened at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel, introducing many "national dishes" to the people of the capital.

Speaking at the festival, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai shared that Malaysians have a saying "tak kenal maka tak cinta", which can be understood as "if you want to know something, love it".

Selera Malaysia Food Festival is an opportunity for visitors to experience and love Malaysian culture through each dish.

"Our two talented chefs have prepared a rich and varied menu. They have prepared outstanding traditional dishes such as nasi lemak, ayam masak merah, udang masak lemak cili api, daging rendang and the famous laksa.

Besides, two traditional desserts, sago gula melaka (sago pearls with palm sugar and coconut milk) and bubur kacang hijau (sweet mung bean porridge) will be your favorites," said Dato' Tan Yang Thai.

Bringing many typical dishes of his country to introduce to Vietnamese diners, chef Mohd Mustaqim Bin S Samsudin shared that Malaysian cuisine is a fusion of many cultures: Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan... Each state has its own unique dishes, reflecting the history, climate and lifestyle of the people there.

During the 5-day festival, typical dishes from all regions of Malaysia are introduced to visitors.

Start in the North with laksa utara (Malaysian style noodles), green mango salad mixed with lime juice and chilli.

In the street food paradise of Penang, visitors can enjoy red chilli prawns and spicy fried fish, both of which are staples in George Town's bustling night markets.

In central Malaysia, chefs serve kambing kari ubi kentang - a rich and aromatic lamb curry with potatoes. Kuala Lumpur offers beef cooked in coconut milk with its signature hot peppers.

To the south of the peninsula, fried chicken with green chilli sauce and kaffir lime leaves, fried fish with sweet and sour tamarind sauce in the Chinese-Malay style. Finally, there are the attractive desserts suggested by the Malaysian ambassador to Vietnam.

The Selera Malaysia Food Festival will take place from now until August 3. Along with that, there will be many activities to promote and advertise Malaysian tourism in Hanoi.
