The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon near Marienbruecke, a bridge spanning a gorge near the castle, which offers views of the famous Neuschwanstein castle.

The 30-year-old man met two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, on the road and lured them onto a trail leading to a lookout point, police said in a statement.
“The younger girl was attacked by the suspect. The other girl tried to rush to help, but was choked by the suspect and then pushed down the ravine,” said police spokesman Holger Stabik.
The suspect then attempted to sexually assault the 21-year-old before pushing her down the ravine. Both girls fell nearly 50 metres.
A mountain rescue team reached both women. Police said the 22-year-old was “responsive” and was taken to hospital. The other woman suffered serious injuries and died.
The suspect fled the scene but was quickly arrested nearby. Police said the suspect was an American and also a tourist .
Authorities did not provide further details about the identities of the suspect or the victims.
The suspect is currently in custody pending investigation on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and sexual offences.
Police say they are focusing on trying to reconstruct exactly what happened and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Neuschwanstein, located in southern Bavaria near the Austrian border, is one of Germany's most popular tourist attractions.
This is the most famous castle built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century. Construction began in 1869 but was never completed. King Ludwig died in 1886.
