The Facebook social network incident that "crashed" on the evening of March 5 is a "good signal" for Vietnamese social network users to be more aware of changing their passwords and creating 2-step security for prevention.

Regarding the social network Facebook experiencing a technical error that caused many users to be logged out of their accounts on the evening of March 5, speaking at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications on the afternoon of March 6, Mr. Le Quang Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), said that from the perspective of information security, the incident is a positive signal.

According to Mr. Le Quang Hung, most people do not use 2-step authentication to protect their accounts. That is why users often lose their online accounts if their passwords are exposed in cyber attacks or data leaks. If all internet users in general and social networks in particular have basic skills and apply basic security measures, they can protect their accounts from the risk of being hacked and stolen.

With the Facebook "network crash" on the evening of March 5, Mr. Le Quang Hung assessed that many people would be startled because they thought they were the victims of a cyber attack.

“This is the best propaganda measure because after just one night, tens of millions of Vietnamese Facebook users felt like they were hacked and consciously changed their passwords and created 2-step authentication,” Mr. Hung commented.

According to Mr. Hung, currently, many users depend heavily on social networking platforms. If they do not have/do not use account security measures, most will lose their accounts.

According to security experts, users also need to be extremely vigilant against "follow-up" services to recover Facebook accounts. "Hackers" are very sensitive to such events. If not careful, users will fall into the trap of bad guys and follow unfounded instructions online, access fraudulent websites, thereby losing login information and passwords. When unable to log in to Facebook or any social network, users should stay calm and ask more friends, wait for the service provider to issue a notice and resolve the problem.
