The article quickly went viral, attracting more than 2.7 million views and sparking heated debate in the international football fan community.
However, according to verification by information verification site DigitEye (India), there is no evidence that Google ever conducted a global poll on the level of popularity between these two football superstars.
To clarify, DigitEye conducted a Google Trends search on July 23, 2025 to compare the search volume between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo globally. The results showed that Ronaldo had a higher search volume at that time.
