The Organizing Committee of the Indonesian National Championship (BRI Super League) has officially announced a plan to temporarily suspend competition from December 1 to 19, 2025 to create conditions for U23 Indonesia to participate in the 33rd SEA Games as well as the 2026 U23 Asian Qualifiers.
According to I-League CEO Ferry Paulus, the match schedule has been agreed with the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI), showing the high determination of U23 Indonesia in defending the men's football gold medal at the SEA Games, the title they are holding.
"The U23 team will be off during the 2025 SEA Games. With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers taking place on the same FIFA schedule, all domestic tournaments will also have to be suspended," added Mr. Ferry Paulus.

The 33rd SEA Games will take place in Thailand from December 9 to 20, with men's football starting on December 3 with 11 participating teams, divided into 3 groups.
Vietnam is in the seeded group with hosts Thailand and Indonesia. The teams will compete in a round robin, with the three group winners and one best runner-up advancing to the semi-finals.
Indonesia determined to take revenge after defeat in the U23 Southeast Asian final at home
Despite being the defending champion, U23 Indonesia just lost 0-1 to U23 Vietnam in the final of U23 Southeast Asia 2025, causing coach Gerald Vanenburg to lose his seat before the 33rd SEA Games.
This change makes the Indonesian team more determined in their journey to defend the throne.
With careful preparation and the advantage of domestic competition schedule, U23 Indonesia is certainly a formidable opponent that coach Kim Sang Sik and his team must be wary of in the race for gold medal at the SEA Games later this year.
