Mike Pence officially joins the 2024 White House race

Pence will launch his campaign with a video and a speech in Iowa on Wednesday, according to people familiar with the situation. He will first have to compete with Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

The former Indiana governor has increasingly distanced himself from Mr Trump, saying his encouragement of rioters who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, endangered Mr Pence and his family, who were in the building at the time.

In addition to Mr. Pence, other Republican candidates include Senator Tim Scott and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is also planning to enter the race this time.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will also officially announce his candidacy today (June 6). Florida Governor De Santis officially announced his candidacy not long ago. The number of Republican candidates is now more than 10.
