Standard Chartered Bank has the first Vietnamese female CEO in Vietnam

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh is the first Vietnamese person to be appointed to the highest leadership position at Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam.

Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam has just announced the appointment of Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh as CEO and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, effective from October 1, 2024.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh is also the first Vietnamese person to be appointed to the top leadership position at Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam. This decision further strengthens the Bank's commitment to promoting diversity and developing national talent.

With 30 years of experience in the industry, Ms. Thuy Hanh has a deep understanding of the domestic market and experience from international banking. Since joining Standard Chartered in 1997, she has held many senior leadership positions such as Director of Financial Institutions, in charge of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia markets, Director of Global Corporate and Financial Institutions, and Director of Commercial Enterprises. Prior to her appointment, under Ms. Hanh's leadership as Deputy CEO of the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Division in Vietnam, CIB's business operations achieved profitable and sustainable growth, focusing on the Bank's global business strategy.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh will succeed Ms. Michele Wee, who has made significant contributions to the Bank during her tenure. Under Ms. Wee’s leadership, the Bank has experienced strong growth and a focus on promoting sustainability, diversity and inclusion. Ms. Wee has also worked closely with government agencies to support Vietnam’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. She was also instrumental in bringing the prestigious Standard Chartered Marathon to Vietnam.
