African swine fever outbreak spreads in Meo Vac commune, nearly 70 pigs were destroyed

From July 17 to July 30, in Meo Vac commune, African swine fever outbreaks were recorded in 6 villages and residential groups. A total of 62 pigs from 18 households were forced to be destroyed, with a total weight of up to 3,265 kg. Tia Chi Dua hamlet alone was the hottest spot with 32 pigs destroyed, equivalent to 2,242 kg. Other localities include Ca Ha (11 pigs), De Lang (7 pigs), Ho Quang Phin (9 pigs), Sang Pa A (1 pig) and Sang Pa B (2 pigs).

As soon as the outbreak was detected, the People's Committee of Meo Vac commune issued an urgent directive, established an interdisciplinary mobile team and a rapid response team to localize, suppress the outbreak and control the situation. The authorities coordinated with the Livestock, Veterinary and Aquatic Station of Region VIII to periodically disinfect the outbreak area and buffer zone, using a total of 178 liters of chemicals and more than 2 tons of lime powder to disinfect barns, burial sites and high-risk areas.

The leader of Meo Vac Commune People's Committee said: "The prevention and control of African swine fever is identified by the locality as a key and urgent task. We have mobilized the entire political system to take part, synchronously implementing measures from propaganda, inspection, supervision to thoroughly handling the outbreak, determined not to let the epidemic spread, protecting the safety of livestock and people's livelihoods."

The commune also mobilized the entire political system to participate, stepping up propaganda to each livestock farming household about the danger of the disease, requiring them to sign a commitment not to hide the disease, not to transport or consume sick pigs, and at the same time strictly implement sanitation, disinfection and sterilization of barns.

In the coming time, Meo Vac commune will continue to strengthen epidemiological surveillance, strictly control the transportation and trading of livestock, and coordinate with functional agencies to thoroughly handle the outbreak, determined to protect the safety of livestock and the living environment of local people.
