On June 16, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong met and worked with Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister in charge of Research and Innovation of the Greek Ministry of Development, former Chairman of the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Association in the Greek Parliament .
At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong congratulated Mr. Stavros Kalafatis on his new position and hoped to continue receiving his support in promoting cooperation between the two countries in research, application of technology development and innovation, which was the field of cooperation mentioned by the Prime Ministers of the two countries in the meeting on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice (France) on June 9.
According to Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong, Vietnam gives top priority to developing science and technology and innovation, considering this an important measure to bring the country into a new stage of development.
She shared about 11 new strategic technology groups that the Vietnamese Prime Minister signed a decision to issue for the Greek side to refer to, study the capabilities and cooperation opportunities for the fields in which the two sides can coordinate.
For his part, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis said that research and development of technology and innovation is one of the top priorities in the economic development strategy of the Greek Government. Development of science, technology and innovation is also becoming an important direction of the European Union (EU) and many countries around the world.
In Greece, the Council for Research on Applied Technology in Life and Promoting Innovation, consisting of leading scientists, was recently established with the highest purpose and priority of bringing scientific and technological achievements, especially artificial intelligence (AI), to all people.
Deputy Minister Kalafatis added that the Greek Government is promoting links between researchers, scientists and industry with businesses; promoting the development of startups to bring technological applications and the benefits of technology and AI to the public.
Mr. Kalafatis pledged to forward the information shared by the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Director of the Greek Council for Applied Technology and Innovation Research to study the possibility of cooperation between the two sides.
At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong also expressed her wish to continue receiving support from Mr. Stavros Kalafatis as a member of the Greek Parliament and representative of the parliamentary delegation in Thessaloniki in promoting cooperation between the two countries' parliaments, as well as between Vietnam and the city of Thessaloniki and activities to be organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries./.
