Ho Chi Minh City enters peak month of disease prevention and control

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a plan for the peak month of disease prevention in the city in 2025, aiming to proactively deploy preventive measures to control and limit the spread of dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, Covid-19 and epidemics during the rainy season in the area.

The peak month is from now until July 31, with key activities such as: strengthening the disease surveillance system; preventing dengue fever outbreaks; preventing the spread of hand, foot and mouth disease in schools and communities; preventing Covid-19 and protecting high-risk groups; striving to complete the declaration of the end of the measles epidemic in the whole city and promoting communication work.

The Department of Health is assigned to preside over and advise the City People's Committee to direct and organize the implementation of the peak month; continue to monitor, supervise and urge localities to strive to declare the end of the measles epidemic in June 2025; direct medical units to deploy measures to prevent and control dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, and Covid-19; provide professional guidance and training to relevant agencies and units; strengthen the disease reporting system and the industry's information technology system to ensure that information is reported and responded to fully and promptly.

The Department of Health ensures adequate medical resources (human resources, drugs, chemicals, equipment, etc.) for epidemic prevention; takes the lead in developing content and orienting communication activities on epidemic prevention and control; coordinates with departments, branches, sectors and localities to implement communication campaigns suitable for each target group; establishes inspection teams to monitor epidemic prevention and control work at departments, branches and localities; reports results and advises the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to promptly direct and handle units that are negligent and subjective in epidemic prevention and control according to regulations.

The Department of Education and Training directs schools and educational institutions to implement disease prevention measures according to the instructions of the health sector; integrate the content of dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease prevention and control and Covid-19 into regular activities of students and parents; coordinate and arrange personnel to participate in the interdisciplinary inspection team on disease prevention and control in schools at the request of the Department of Health.

The People's Committees of districts, Thu Duc City and the People's Committees of wards, communes and towns organize the implementation of the peak month in the locality, mobilize the political system and the entire population to participate in disease prevention and control; mobilize community health collaborators and organizations to participate in environmental sanitation campaigns, disease prevention communication; direct, inspect and supervise communication work, environmental sanitation, admission, treatment and handling of dengue fever risk points.

Coordinate with the health sector to deploy the "Online Health" application to receive and handle feedback on disease risk points; at the same time, inspect and strictly handle violations of disease prevention and control regulations; strengthen management and inspection of disease prevention and control implementation of local medical and educational facilities, especially private childcare groups.

According to information from the Ministry of Health, the situation of infectious diseases in the world is still complicated, with many diseases showing an increasing trend in cases in many countries. In the country, although the epidemic is basically under control, there has been a local increase in the number of infectious diseases in some localities, notably dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease and Covid-19.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the infectious disease surveillance system recorded a rapid increase in the number of weekly hand, foot and mouth disease cases; the number of Covid-19 cases has also been on the rise in recent weeks, notably recording the new variant NB.1.8.1, with some severe cases on the basis of underlying diseases.

Dengue fever is currently stable, but is entering the peak of the epidemic season, and the number of cases is expected to increase in the coming time.
