Controversy as Martinez nominated for best goalkeeper of the year

France Football magazine has just announced the list of 10 goalkeepers nominated for the Trophée Yachine 2025, the award honoring the best goalkeeper in the world in the 2024/25 season.

A post on X read: “Martinez didn’t do anything to get nominated, just based on the glory of the 2022 World Cup. He had a terrible season in the Premier League and didn’t do much in the Champions League, yet he still made the list. Tell me he’s better than Szczesny!”

Another opinion emphasized: “Martinez was nominated only because of the World Cup 3 years ago, while Sanchez was the best goalkeeper at the Club World Cup but was ignored. It's unfair!”

The 2025 Trophée Yachine nomination list includes many big names such as Alisson (Liverpool), Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid), David Raya (Arsenal), Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest), Yann Sommer (Inter Milan) and Lucas Chevalier (Lille). Among them, Donnarumma, with his stable performance at PSG and an important role in the team's treble, is considered a strong candidate.
