On the afternoon of June 17, Mr. Dam Hai Van - Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board - said that the authorities are working to salvage a barge buried under the sand in the beach area opposite 80 Tran Phu Street.

The barge salvage is expected to be completed in early July 2025, to ensure safety for residents and tourists swimming in the area.

The salvage operation includes using a sand suction machine around the barge, using equipment to cut metal to create holes for cable hooks, then using a truck to excavate the shore to create a trench the size of the barge, using specialized equipment to break up the barge and bring it ashore. The salvage is expected to take 15 - 20 days.

It is known that this area is where an incident occurred where a barge over 30m long ran aground and had engine failure at the end of 2019, and is now completely submerged under the sand.

Under the influence of the ebb and flow of the tide, the impact of the waves exposed and raised above the sand the sharp edges of the barge's bow, which could have been the cause of people being injured.

As Tuoi Tre Online reported, recently, people and tourists swimming at the beach opposite 80 Tran Phu had their feet cut by many sharp objects.

Locals said many foreign tourists have been injured and had to ask for first aid from locals.

There was a case of a 5-year-old boy who was swimming in the sea when his leg was cut by a sharp object underwater. The deep wound required 5 stitches and a tetanus shot.
