Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi - Head of Thien Cam Border Guard Station ( Ha Tinh Border Guard) informed that at around 7:20 p.m. on July 19, the weather in the sea area of Thien Cam commune suddenly had storms and heavy rain, causing many boats to not be able to return to shelter in time.

At that time, the tourist boat Nguyen Ngoc owned by Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoang was on its way to shore when it was unfortunately sunk by waves in the area of Boc Island, about 0.5 nautical miles from the coast of Thien Cam. At the time of the accident, there were 4 crew members and 30 tourists on board who were participating in a squid fishing tour. When the boat sank, all passengers and crew members wore life jackets and jumped into the sea to await rescue.

Immediately after receiving the news, Thien Cam Border Guard Station quickly deployed forces, coordinated with Thien Cam Commune authorities to mobilize large tonnage vessels operating near the sunken ship to approach the scene and provide rescue. However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties due to heavy rain, big waves and taking place at night.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi said: "When we arrived at the scene, all the passengers had jumped into the sea. After the rescue, everyone had to take shelter on Boc Island. At around 0:30 on July 20, when the storm had dissipated, the tourists were brought ashore to ensure safety."
