Take pictures to keep love while you still can
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Ngoc (Tan Hung commune, Tay Ninh province) has a habit of taking family photos every Tet holiday. She shared: “These photos were taken during the Lunar New Year, the time when everyone and every family gathers together. Every 2nd and 3rd day of Tet, all the children and grandchildren gather at their grandparents' house. It is a warm moment that perhaps nothing can replace.”
From simple frames, the bright smiles of each member become precious memories. For Ms. Ngoc, each photo is a story, preserving the warm moments of loved ones. "The moment that moves me the most is when I see the bright eyes and happy smiles of my loved ones. Every time I look back at those photos, I feel lucky to still have those perfect moments with my family" - Ms. Ngoc said.
Ms. Ngoc does not save the photos on her phone but prints them and hangs them all over her house. According to her, it is not only a memory but also a way to remind her of her family because family is the origin and the strongest motivation in life.
However, in reality, many families still do not have a complete family photo. According to Ms. Ngoc, the reason is not necessarily due to conditions or technology. “Many families are busy and do not have gatherings with all members to take a photo together. I think the glue that binds them together is not really strong, each person pursues their own thoughts and schedules, the feelings between generations are not strong, so they do not feel that taking a group photo is too necessary,” Ms. Ngoc added.
Not everyone realizes the value of a family photo until their loved one has passed away. Wrinkles, blurred eyes, or a loving handshake will only remain in memory if not preserved. A photo may seem like just a moment, but it is actually a witness to family love, a connecting thread for future generations.
Want a family photo… but can never have one
There are people who, despite their great desire, can never have a family photo. And for them, family memories are just fragments kept in their hearts. Mr. Nguyen Minh Hau (Hung Thuan commune) is one of those people. Mr. Hau has his own small family. On every special occasion, he keeps the moments when the whole family is together, but on the contrary, for over 30 years, Mr. Hau has not had a single photo with his parents. "It's not that I don't want to, but because I can't anymore..." - Mr. Hau said sadly.
When Hau was about 16 years old, his mother had a traffic accident on her way to work. She passed away suddenly, without saying goodbye, without leaving behind a single photo of the family. At that time, phones were not popular, digital cameras were a luxury, and no one thought it was necessary to preserve such a seemingly ordinary thing. If there were any family photos, they were only individual shots - one of the father, one of the mother, one of the children, there was never a single photo of the whole family sitting in front of the camera.
“Until now, I still can’t remember clearly how my mother smiled because the memory has faded over time. I wish, just once, I could see my family in the frame again, but that will never be possible,” said Mr. Hau.
Therefore, Mr. Hau promised himself that he would always try not to let his child grow up with empty memories. He will take pictures with his child whenever possible. No need for a special occasion, just a day when the whole family can be together. "I want my child to be able to look back at each stage of his childhood when he grows up. To be able to see his parents' smiles in the pictures, to know that he grew up in love" - Mr. Hau shared more.
A family photo seems simple but it preserves emotions, affection and attachment over the years. Don’t hesitate to say loving words or sit down together to take a photo. Because today, our family may still have all its members, but tomorrow, who knows how life will change? And sometimes, a photo - just a photo - can be a bridge between the past and the present, between those who are still together and those who have gone far away./.
